  • An upcoming update to Microsoft's Xbox Cloud Gaming program will vastly increase the number of games a user has access to.
  • According to Tom Warren, Microsoft is working to allow gamers to stream their Xbox game library in addition to Game Pass games.
  • The feature will reportedly launch to Xbox Insiders in November, with more users gaining access in the coming months.

Microsoft's Xbox Cloud Gaming will reportedly receive a massive update next month. The update will apparently allow gamers to access their Xbox game library for streaming purposes.

This information comes via The Verge's Tom Warren, who explains in a new report how Xbox cloud gaming is expanding its capabilities. According to Warren, in November, Microsoft plans to support the ability to stream Xbox libraries.

As it currently stands, streaming is limited to games on a Game Pass subscription. One change is increasing the number of titles people have access to, along with the number of ways to access cloud gaming, making everything widely available.

Xbox Insiders will get first dibs

According to Warren, the move is part of Microsoft's “Project Lapland,” a long-term effort to expand cloud gaming. Currently, the software giant is preparing servers to support the streaming of thousands of games that are not part of the Game Pass library.

When the feature is ready to launch in November, it will be available to Xbox Insiders first, according to the report. It will then expand to more Xbox users and support more games. Presumably, not every game will be available for streaming, but that's apparently the ultimate goal.

For those who don't have an Xbox to buy games, Warren notes that enabling Microsoft purchases in the Xbox Mobile app for Android will play a big role. This way, a prospective player can purchase a non-Game Pass game in the app and then immediately start playing it on a compatible device.

A separate browser-based store is also reportedly in the works, which will increase the number of ways a player can purchase a game. As for streaming, Xbox has greatly increased the number of platforms that support streaming, and Amazon's Fire Sticks have joined the list of compatible hardware. Any way you look at it, this is a huge development for Microsoft as it looks to expand the way gamers play.
