- Keeping Yamato away from the Straw Hat crew kept the three monsters balanced and dynamic.
- With Yamato's unique abilities, Yamato's potential entry into the crew could change the power hierarchy significantly.
The Wano Country arc featured the first incredible fighters and each piece Fans were excited to see them in action. Of the many, Yamato was arguably the most exciting. She was Kaido's daughter but had a soft spot for Kozuki Oden. He was mesmerized after reading Auden's journal. In fact, he began calling himself Auden and openly opposed his father's sadistic ways.
Yamato met Ace years before the current timeline. During their encounter, Ace told him about Luffy and his dream. Yamato immediately remembered that Roger had also used the same words he had read in Oden's manuscript. So he waited for Luffy to come. Yamato finally meets Luffy when the Straw Hat Pirates make their way to Vanoo.
Upon seeing him, he expressed his desire to join the Straw Hats and apparently Luffy didn't mind. So most fans expected Yamato to be a Straw Hat by the end of the arc. After Kaido's defeat, Yamato seemed to change and decided to stay back. His decision confused fans, but in the end it was the right choice, as it would have destroyed the monster trio dynamic if Yamato had joined.

Yamato was a powerful Oni princess
For this to make sense, fans should remember Yamato's power. He was exposed to war and bloodshed at an early age, which made him physically and mentally determined. Yamato is able to use all three types of Haki, which is an impressive feat in itself. But what makes him truly special is his use of advanced Conqueror's Haki. Until the Wano Country match, fans didn't know that Conqueror's Haki could be infused with attacks.
My name is Yamato. I am Kaido's son.
Over time, the Conqueror's Advanced Haki was found to greatly increase damage output. Almost all the great fighters in One Piece can use Haki Conqueror in fights. Therefore, Yamato's access to such a destructive ability puts him in an elite group.
Yamato mastered his Devil Fruit
In addition to having such powerful Haki, Yamato is also a Devil Fruit user. At some point in the past, he consumed Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami. It is a legendary Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into a white fox known as the Guardian God of Vanoo.
Yamato can use both full wild and hybrid forms, which shows that he has great mastery over the Devil Fruit. Yamato's power was revealed when he fought Kaido in a 1v1, a feat only Luffy could boast. Not only did he stop Kaido, he was able to hurt him. Now that his power level is established, it's time to discuss how he negatively affects the three Straw Hat Pirate monsters.
Yamato's influence on the monster trilogy
Oda made the right call by keeping Yamato in Wano
The Monster Trio consists of Luffy, Zoro and Sanji. All three of them are great fighters that the rest of the crew can rely on in times of danger. As the captain, Luffy is clearly the strongest of the three. After him is Zoro and then Sanji. Luffy has access to all three types of Haki and their advanced versions. Zoro can also use a variety of Haki, but he has no mastery over them. Meanwhile, Sanji only has access to two types and cannot use advanced versions like Zoro.
So, if Yamato joined the crew, he would be the strongest member after Luffy. This completely destroys the dynamic of the three monsters. Sanji is completely repelled from it, while Zoro is transported to the third spot. Fortunately, Oda showed his common sense and decided to keep Yamato in Wano. However, fans shouldn't rule out the possibility of Yamato joining the Straw Hat Pirates in the future.
