What we know about season 3

What we know about season 3

One thing we can say for sure is that the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen is officially happening! The animation team has been working hard to bring the intense arc of Culling from the manga to our screens. This battle royale pits nearly 1,000 wizards into an impossible hunger game, all part of the ancient wizard Kenjako's plan to optimize Japan's cursed energy source (minus Hokkaido, because apparently it's too sacred for such shenanigans).

The arc picks up right after the wild things went down in Shibuya, with our favorite jujutsu high school students caught up in a magical death match. We'll meet a host of new wizards and dangers, plus discuss burning questions like what's locked in the supernatural box for Gojo, Yuji's impending death sentence, and Yuta's gig as Chief Executioner. If they adapt the manga close to panel to panel, we're looking at chapters 159-221, so maybe 23-24 episodes like the previous chapters, give or take.

Unfortunately, there's no official premiere date yet, but late 2025 seems likely. It takes time to draw all those badass fight scenes in the vividly animated style of Kaizen Jujutsu, especially considering that the points are up to 10 this season, so the delays don't shock me. The Culling Games will also introduce great new players like Hana Kurusu, Kinji Hakari, Hiromi Higuruma and more. I think all these new roles could define the series with life-or-death battles and game-changing revelations.

MAPPA Studios is back for season 3 with the animation bus. If they nail it like they did the last two seasons, we'll be hanging on a killer cliffhanger and dying for a while longer while they (hopefully) start making season four.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a third season of Kaizen Jujutsu?

Yes, the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen has been confirmed by MAPPA Studio, but no official release date has been announced yet.

Why does the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen have a different animation?

This is mainly due to the change of directors from both seasons. In the second season, Shota Geshuzono replaced Park Songo as director. Another reason could be time constraints as MAPPA had many projects on hand.
