What is the difference between Shadowless and First Edition?
Since its inception Pokemon TCGthe list of iconic cards released in the most valuable sets continues to grow as the hobby experiences a resurgence that brings us back to 1999 levels of engagement and excitement. However, despite the incredible popularity of the Pokemon TCG, some cards still confuse newcomers as the origin story of the precious Base Set grows further and further away with each passing day.
However, once you understand the order in which each version of the Base Set was released, it will be easy to tell the difference between each type of card. Due to the different values that Unlimited, Shadowless, and First Edition cards have, the terminology is important in identifying which card you're referring to, but it can be confusing if you're not careful.
What are the three basic card types?

shadowless The cards are so called because these cards Do not have a shadow on the bottom border of the Pokemon frame.

Now, look at the Unlimited Blastoise card and scan the bottom of the golden border – you can see A shadow in the space between Blastoise and where it says: Shellfish Pokemon.
The card design changed during the unlimited print run, leading to this unusual set of names.

What is the difference between Shadowless and First Edition?
Shadowless and First Edition cards are often confused and the terms are mistakenly used interchangeably.
Shadowless cards Visually identical to the first editions, except that They do not have the “Edit 1” stamp.
In short, All 1st Edition cards are unshaded. But the opposite is not true.
Calling the card “first edition” means that it is also unshaded.
So the term First Edition Shadowless is redundant.
This is similar to referring to an unlimited print as “unlimited, with a shadow”, which is also repeated because the latter is implied.
Cards can be unshaded without being first edition, Due to the change time at the beginning of the unlimited printing period.
Remember this The fastest way to tell if a card is shadowless (from the second edition of the base set) is to check the gilt border, as the absence of shading will quickly indicate its condition.
