VIC, Crime: Speed van allegedly set upon on suburban street in Melbourne’s north

A terrifying alleged attack by five men on a speed van on a suburban street in Melbourne’s north that caused the driver to flee has been caught on camera.

Police allege the traffic camera vehicle was parked on Nicholson St in Coburg when about 12.30am on Friday it was set upon by a group of hooded men.

The group, who are seen wearing hoods and face coverings, were captured on video allegedly jumping on the car, as well as throwing rocks and a wheelie bin.

Officers allege the attack, which lasted just seconds, resulted in the back window on the vehicle being smashed open before the group fled.

The driver, a 36-year-old man from St Albans, managed to drive away from the scene and seek help. He was treated at the scene for minor cuts.

Investigators have since released images and CCTV of men they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.
