While Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been generally well-received, fans of the series admit that the latest installment misses several aspects that the series is known for. Aside from the interpersonal relationships that feel a bit awkward, even the romances are pretty dry. BioWare seems to be focusing a little too much on the new gameplay approach and not enough on what fans love about the series.

Neve covers Age of the Dragon: Failure of the Guardians to commit
The Veilguard case does a decent job with the materials it has, but the Neve struggles more than most.
Many players have also complained about not being able to talk to companions whenever Rook wants to, instead having to wait for a notification to appear. One of the last issues raised is related to Lucanius. While presented as a badass assassin in the promotional materials, the crow appears very differently in the game itself.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard spoilers ahead.
He's just a silly little killer
After rescuing Lucanis in the Sea of Blood quest, which BioWare says was too difficult for most players, Lucanis is available to tag along whenever you need him. However, it turns out he's not quite the ruthless killer we thought he was. Players point out that he's generally very nice and that he needs to drink some coffee when he's stressed.
When he is not a stereotype, his inner devil takes over and he just rages for no reason. You'd think the best killer Antiwan Cruz ever had was way cooler than this guy. In the trailer, we saw him brutally snapping someone's neck, but as Glamonster on Reddit pointed out, he looks a bit silly in the final game.
“He's supposed to be possessed by SPITE, and yet he's still better than most people before they've had their morning coffee,” said one comment on Reddit. “I expected to see a lot more of Spite, as well as a range of cruel interactions and advice from him. Was he, as an assassin, hugging his targets to death or something? “
Some other comments also mentioned how easily he let go of his cousin, who was responsible for his imprisonment and betrayed his entire clan. Fans hoped Lukanis would be the core option in the party, with every advice he gave revolving around killing someone. However, it seems that instead we got someone who needs her emotional support coffee whenever things go wrong.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the highly anticipated fourth game in BioWare's fantasy RPG series, formerly known as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. It's a direct sequel to Inquisition, focusing on Red Lyrium and Solas, the aforementioned direwolf.
