How Grandmother Turbo Became a Monkey-Neko Doll
His unexpected change
Many fans of the series may wonder how exactly Grandmother Turbo ended up trapped in a Maneki-Neko doll, a very different appearance than her original form. Most of the situation started when Okaron and Momo Ayase had their final battle with Turbo Granny in Season 1, Episode 4, “Alien Invasion”. Soon after the two chase Turbo Granny and the location-bound spirit out of Shono City, they believe the fearsome Yuka has officially been defeated as his crab-like form seems to disintegrate in front of them. However, in the end this does not happen.
After their battle, Okaron quickly realizes that some of his “property” is still missing. To the surprise of Momo and her grandmother, a quick glance at Okaron's aura reveals that she is still possessed. Momo brings a monkey-neko doll and places a spell on it, which immediately turns red and burns the second Momo, which draws the negative aura from Okaron. This negative aura soon grabs the Maneki-Neko doll in front of him and runs away.
The possessed doll is soon revealed to be Turbo's grandmother, given the clear tone of voice and threats against the three heroes. Turbo Granny reveals that she was astral-shifted to take over Okaron, and that she needs to wait a while to fully recover from the battle. Unfortunately for Turbo Granny, her powers remain in Okaron while only her consciousness resides in the Monkey-Neko doll, making her powerless against the group, especially as their powers grow stronger.
What is the significance of the doll?
The Maneki-Neko doll is a symbol of luck
The Maneki-Neko doll, also known as the pointing cat, is a traditional Japanese figurine that brings good luck to its owner. After Turbo Granny's terrifying initial form as a youkai spirit, this exchange reveals a protective, lucky creature with a much deeper personality than just another antagonist.
Turbo Granny, after her “defeat” in the final battle, is revealed to have taken up residence in the tunnel, as it was the place where many young girls were taken against their will and horribly killed. Turbo Granny wanted to protect the girls and comfort them during their stay in the tunnel, hoping to make it easier for them to transition to the afterlife. As Turbo Granny transitions to her Maneki-Neko form, she becomes more of an ally of the two, seeking to continue to protect Momo in particular and offer assistance to the two, as Maneki-Neko does.

The current role of Grandmother Turbo
where Grandmother Turbo stands in the middle of the group
Now that Turbo Granny is in a much prettier and smaller form, her role has changed significantly. He is no longer a fearsome force seeking to end Okaron and Momo, but instead, he is a relatively harmless puppet who serves as occasional comedic relief and a source of help for Okaron and Momo as they deal with ghosts and Other aliens continue. . While it may not be the role he ever envisioned, his protection of Momo symbolizes a soft spot in his heart and proves that he was never just an antagonist to be defeated.
Soon, in Season 1, Episode 8, “She's a Little Crazy”, Turbo Granny seems to have become part of the family, sitting at the table with the rest of the gang and munching on ramen. Although he was initially only there to regain his powers and help restore Okaron's belongings, he seems to have quickly taken on the role of a friend and protector of the family. Although he definitely still speaks to the group in a rude manner, it adds to the comedic effect given his diminutive and unimposing form.
Can Granny Turbo return to her old form?
Can he regain his full power?
Some fans may wonder if Turbo Granny might return to her original form before she got the Maneki-Neko doll. Although she remains in her current Maneki-Neko doll form in the anime and is unlikely to change any time soon, it is still possible that she will return to her original body. His current condition requires him to remain in the doll so he can return Okaron's gear so he can regain his powers. However, he seems to have become the mascot of the show in his current form, so chances of a quick return are unlikely.
It's also possible that Turbo Granny can regain her powers, but still retain her Maneki-Neko form, as it's much more appealing to most people, including the gang. It's also a source of great comedy and allows him to stick around as an extra member of the group. Sure, it might not be his favorite form, but it certainly gives him an advantage going forward.
