2024 may not have been as busy as 2023 when it came to big-budget AAA releases, but the year still saw its fair share of critically acclaimed games. In fact, some of the highest-rated new video games of all time were released in 2024, ensuring that gamers on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox all have something great and new to play.

With a handful of new releases still to come for 2024, with no surprises completely out of the question, it's safe to say that the list of the top 25 highest-rated games of the year has settled. These are the titles that stand out as the best games of 2024, and many of them have won awards at various awards shows, such as the Game Awards hosted by Jeff Keighley.

I decided to exclude traditional remakes, remasters and DLC, otherwise the top rated games on the 2024 list would look completely different.

Nintendo is expected to release the Switch 2 console, Rockstar hopes to deliver Grand Theft Auto 6And many more new and important games are available. The 2025 game release calendar is filling up and it will be exciting to see what will be on the top rated games list next year.
