The best mobility items in Fortnite

A round of Fortnite takes place on a massive map that can take years to travel across. End-to-end hiking can make the game feel like a chore, which is why there are special gear known as movement items to make it a fun road trip instead of a monotonous nature hike.

There have been many mobility items throughout Fortnite's long life, but some have been better than others. So here are what we believe are the best of the best when it comes to zipping on a map.

Shock wave grenade

Old but good

The Shockwave Grenade has been around for so long that it has become a staple of Fortnite and is often used by its top players. While other move items have appeared, making the Shockwave Grenade seem inferior in comparison, most of them are bowed out as the new season begins. Meanwhile, the Shockwave Grenade has stuck around, making it one of the most reliable items in the game's history.

Sometimes the dumbest option is the best option

Here's the thing about chainsaws: it's fun. This is super fun. You travel along the terrain riding a chainsaw, which is about as silly as you can get from Fortnite. And if you run into an enemy, you can use a chainsaw to slice them up like a leather-faced horror icon.

The sad thing is that it's not really good as a moving commodity when it comes to ground cover, because it will eventually run out of gas. But while it may not be the best, it's a good time.

Kinetic blade

Cut and slice

Kinetic Blade is a sword that allows you to jump in the air and destroy enemies. What hurts the kinetic blade is that it came out after the shockwave hammer, which is a tough act.

The blade also took a bit too long to charge up its dash and only had three charges (and the rare repeat only had two.) It's still a fun weapon to use, but nothing compared to that hammer.

Nitro Fist

Shoryuken!

Do you want to punch something? Do you want to move forward in the air? Want to pack big punches while doing both? Then Nitro Fists will be your jam.

These punches looked silly, but they allowed you to travel horizontally and vertically via a rocket-powered uppercut. They fit the awesome theme of Season 5, Season 3, and are the closest Overwatch's Doomfist will probably ever get to being in Fortnite.

Rocket Ram

Enjoy your crash landing

Rocket Ram is another absurd one that launches you into the air and then brings you down with a giant crash. Any poor idiot caught below you will go flying, which can lead to hilarious eliminations if kicked off a high ledge.

It was great for traveling to great heights, covering ground, hitting opponents, or destroying structures. Just a great, silly fun item, which is exactly what you want in Fortnite.

Salty black panther claws

Cat scratch fever

Many of the best animated items are inspired by Marvel characters. These paws are a great example of that. When used, they allow you to run faster, attack enemies.

Wearing these claws will charge one meter. When it's full, you can activate it to charge the claws and temporarily give yourself unlimited stamina.

Web Shooter/Gripple Gloves

We all just want to be Spider-Man

Spinning around like Spider-Man will always be fun. So when Fortnite introduced Web Shooters – and later the inferior, though still good Grapple Gloves – they became very popular because of how good they felt to use and how effective they were at moving around.

A great move item that only gets updated with a few better options.

Iron Man Flight Kit

Faster than a speeding bullet

Another powerful Marvel item. This kit is so powerful that you can fly from one end of the map to the other before running out of charge.

It's like a much better version of Wings Of Icarus, complete with a similar aerial attack. And if you equip it with the Combat Kit, you can even do a Unibeam blast in the air like Tony Stark.

War machine floating jet

Float like a butterfly, shoot like a bee

The best animated items of Marvel. In fact, it was so underwhelming that many players celebrated when it vaulted. It's basically the ultimate form of a jetpack that allows you to float in mid-air and even use your own weapons.

When you combine this with War Machine's arsenal and auto turrets, you become a flying nightmare.

ODM Gear

Sorry Spidey, that's how you roll

A website like Spider-Man might be fun, but nothing like the greatness of ODM Gear from Attack On Titan. When this item was removed, Fortnite stopped being about who had the best aim and became about who could move around the map the fastest.

If you've never used ODM Gear, imagine Web Shooters multiplied. It not only spins you around, but propels you forward to give you more speed. If that wasn't enough, you can tackle enemies to perform a melee attack. Make it Epic!

ride like the wind

Airbending is just ridiculous. Avatar Tying: The ultimate Airbender event, this item forms a circle of air around you that lets you zoom around the map at ridiculous speeds and perform a jump to reach higher planes.

Hitting an opponent using this item is almost impossible as you become a living vehicle that can circle everyone. Maybe a little subdued, but a lot of fun.

GOAT Of Bashing Things

When it comes to mobility devices, the Shockwave Hammer stands above the rest as it offers the best balance between offensive and mobility capabilities. In offensive mode, the hammer can smash enemies for reasonable damage. It would be enough if that was all the Shockwave Hammer did, but it also lets you jump on land – and on water – to gain height and travel great distances.

Plus, for some reason, you can keep multiple hammers in your inventory. If you want, you can choose nothing but shockwave hammers that allow you to jump infinitely and smash enemies. That's why the shockwave hammer is the undisputed king of mobility tools.
