Star Rail's Denizens of Abundance explained

Incidents of Henkai: Star Railway 2.4 and 2.5 saw Borisin's sneak attack on Xianzhou Luofu to free his warhead, Hoolay, from his Shackling prison. The story mainly focuses on the conflict between the Borisin and their relatives, the Foxians. However, the centuries of war between the Xianzhou Alliance and the main faction Borisin is a part of: the Denizens of Abundance also allude to it.

The Denizens of Abundance include the long-lived species that follow the Aeon Yaoshi, which include:

  • Borisin: These canine-humanoid species share a common ancestor with the Foxes, and both once lived on the planet Verdantia. Yaushi is said to have created the Red Spring in Verdantia, and those who drank from it became immortal. This blessing also caused the prosperity of the population in it and led to its collapse. The survivors fled the planet, and Borisin eventually gained notoriety for conquering other civilizations with his brute strength and vast knowledge of biotechnology.
  • Weaver wings: These are feathered species that used to live on Muldrasil. They have been enemies Henkai: Star RailwayXianzhou already gained immortality from the latter. They slaughtered many natives of the alliance.
  • Hoyhannam: These centaur-like species have four hind limbs and two arms. They have formed an alliance with Borisin and have recently been enslaved by the Anti-Matter Legion.
  • Heliobi: These are formless forms of pure energy. Their origin is unknown, and while Xiangzhou classifies them as abundant dwellers, their faction affiliation is unclear. They have been enemies of the Alliance since time immemorial, as they often try to take over and drain human bodies.

The conflict between the inhabitants of abundance and Xianzhou alliance

The people's devotion to their path makes them the natural enemies of Xiangzhou, whose goal is to eradicate the “plenty of pests”. In order to understand this contradiction, one must know the history of the union, which used to be the faithful followers of many ways.

Xianzhou history and abundance

Centuries ago, the Xiangzhou Alliance sought the elixir of immortality and obtained it from Yaoshi, through the Ambrosial Tree that Aeon had planted in Lufu. However, they found that the long life they sought and now enjoyed was a curse, as the oldest citizens of Xiangzhou ended up becoming “Mara Stark”. This condition causes an individual of the long-lived species to slowly lose their mind and undergo painful physical growth, irreversibly turning them into hostile creatures.

Immortality also caused massive population growth in Xiangzhou, which was poorly managed and led to civil wars. The fleet was attacked by aliens who wanted immortality for themselves. Tired of bloodshed and civil unrest, Reignbow Arbiter Lan, one of the Alliance's most adamant champions, rose up against the overwhelming control over Xianzhou.

Residents of many wars

Not everyone supported Lan's opposition. However, when the Wingweavers began advancing on the Xianzhou fleet, the Alliance soon called for their assistance. The hero made a deal with Emperor Heliobi, who was imprisoned in a shackled prison, to curb their power. Together they fired an arrow that destroyed the Ambrosial Arbor and the invading Wingweaver army in one shot. The force of this attack was so strong that it damaged every ship in the Xianzhou fleet. Lan and Emperor Flint then attained god status and became Aeon Shekar.

After the events of the first Denizens of Abundance War, the Alliance swore allegiance to Lan. Their mission to destroy the Denizens of Abundance led to two more major conflicts. The last one resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Xiangzhou pilots. It's been nearly three decades since the Third War, and it looks like Borisin's invasion could start the next war.
