Sparking Zero Beats Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 as the most played fighting game

According to SteamDB, Thursday night in the US saw 91,005 players play Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero on Steam, an incredible effort for a game that hasn't fully launched yet.

This number allowed the game to eclipse the previous record for most concurrent players in a fighting game on Steam, which was set by Street Fighter 6 in June of last year. At the time, Street Fighter was managing 70,540 players, which means Sparking Zero has grown by almost 30%.

In comparison, Tekken 8 had 46,139 players on Steam at its peak, and the most popular Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat 11, had 27,301 players. Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, released last month, peaked at just over 2,000 players.

Sparking Zero's 91,000 players also easily make it the most played Dragon Ball game on Valve's platform. Previously, FighterZ held the record with 44,234 players, while Kakarot and Xenoverse 2 had 25,715 and 13,570 respectively. The original Xenoverse peaked at 22,782 concurrent users.

With the cheaper standard version set to launch on Friday, it will be interesting to see how high that figure ends up going. Let's just hope those players have a slightly easier time with the game.
