Silent Hill 2 Art Director Talks About Remake's Abstract Dad Deal

Key foods

  • Abstract Daddy is one of Silent Hill's most intense and disturbing encounters, and gamers aren't the only ones who feel that way.
  • Silent Hill 2 lead art director Masahiro Ito shared on Twitter that Abstract Daddy's fight made him feel bad.
  • This creature is the embodiment of sexual abuse and is considered one of the saddest stories in the game.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is officially out, and horror fans old and new alike are making their way through James Sunderland's intense adventure. One of those people experiencing Bloober Team's rebuild is Silent Hill 2's lead art director, Masahiro Ito.

Ahead of the release of Silent Hill 2 Remake, Ito can often be found on Twitter talking about his career, the game, and some background. And now that the game is out in full, Ito took to the social media platform to talk about one of the game's most iconic and poignant encounters: Abstract Daddy.

As it turns out, Ito is just as terrified of boss fights as the rest of us. And this is from the person who designed it in the first place. “Even though I designed Abstract Daddy myself, the creature and bringing Angela's story to life in the SH2R A-Daddy battle made me feel bad,” Ito wrote on Twitter. “It was too bad.”

Baba's abstract is intense and emotional

While Silent Hill 2 and its remake are pretty intense horror games, what sets Abstract Daddy's encounter apart is how sad the background is.

Silent Hill 2 spoilers to followBaba's abstract is the manifestation of sexual abuse and trauma that Angela experienced from her father. It's sad, pointless and insanely horrible. Specifically, the design revolves around two figures on a bed frame in a sexual position. It's obviously not for the faint of heart, and its larger purpose is to help make Silent Hill what it is as a structure.

Given how many people have reacted to Silent Hill as well as Abstract Daddy over the years, it's interesting to hear from someone responsible for the same reaction. Especially since Ito is witnessing his own art come to life in a new way.
