Swimmers at Coogee beach were ordered out of the water on Sunday after a shark was spotted close to the shore.
The shark alarm shounded at about 8.30am at the busy beach.
The beach has now reopened.
One local told NCA NewsWire: “We were told to get out of the water. It was pretty frightening.
“The beach was pretty busy, as the weather is good.”
Swimmers were ushered out of the water after the shark was spotted at 8.30 on Sunday morning at the popular Sydney beach.
Lifeguards carried out all the checks and clearances and the beach reopened after 9am.
