Saudi Ministry signs cooperation agreement with Nigeria’s Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs

Makkah: More than 800 elderly men and women, including a 105-year-old woman, participated in a literacy campaign organized this summer by the Saudi Ministry of Education on behalf of the General Directorate of Education in Jazan.

About 233 male and 599 female students were enrolled in 28 educational centers across the region in the provinces of Samtah, Ahad al-Masariha, Al-Harith and Al-Arizah.

Several educational, cultural, social and health activities and events were held with the participation of government organizations and the non-profit sector.

The aim of these activities is to develop the life skills of the beneficiaries and to ensure their achievement of educational and cultural goals to ensure their fair and comprehensive quality education.

One of these students was 105-year-old Shaqra Tohari, who enrolled herself in Al-Dabrah educational center in Ahad al-Masriha, which showed her strong desire to learn to read and write.

He said that he felt happy standing by the board to write the alphabet, or sitting in his chair to write and recite numbers, or reciting Surah Al-Fatiha or short chapters of the Holy Quran, while having his support. teachers

I was eager to learn to read and write, even if it was 100 years ago. This is a dream that I have been waiting for for years and decades to come true.”

Despite all the challenges and the fact that I have grown older, this dream has become a reality. Tehri said: This is a golden opportunity that I could never miss.

Siddique revealed that she spent her life raising her five sons and four daughters. He trained them and dedicated his life to them.

However, deep in his soul he always wished he could teach them and help them with their homework.

“Kingdom's interest in providing education for all and eradicating illiteracy helped me achieve my dream. This motivated me and the women of my village to progress in learning and catch up with what we have lost.

“Education and learning is everyone's dream, the purpose of which is to eradicate ignorance and illiteracy.

“(We) enrich their knowledge with simple science facts presented by their teacher at the Senior Education Center,” she added.

Tehari's son, Ibrahim, said his mother was very happy to enroll in the adult education program because it represented a dream she had been waiting for decades to achieve and her right to learn, write and read like other women. believes.

Noura, Ibrahim's 35-year-old sister, drives their mother to the educational center every afternoon, and her other children help her with school work.

Ibrahim said that after the successful completion of the first year of life, the women of the village were proud of his mother.

Ibrahim stated that what sets his mother apart is her passion and determination to complete her education and learn new subjects.
