- Although most Atlus games allow you to name the main character and make them your own, they tend to have conventional names.
- This seems to be the case with Metaphor: ReFantazio as well, as the default settings show him to be called Will in most parts of the world.
- Let's hope we stick to it and don't get another status in Persona 3, right Minato?
Metaphor: ReFantazio's hero has a customizable name like other Atlus games, but the default in most parts of the world is “Will”.
One of the main features of Atlus games is how they treat their heroes. Most are meant to be partially blank slates for the player to attach themselves to, which includes giving them a name to use for text dialogue. This is the same for most RPGs, but one interesting change is that almost all of them have a default canonical name.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Review – Snatched The Atlus Crown
Don't mind me, I'll just be here starting the Magnus Brothers Fan Club.
For example, Persona 5's Joker is conventionally known as Ren Amamiya, while Persona 3 Reload's protagonist is Makoto Yuki. While Atlus' latest game, Metaphor: ReFantazio, does some things differently with its protagonist (including giving them fully voiced lines for the first time), it also has a default name option for the protagonist.
As confirmed by the RPG site, Metaphor: ReFantazio's default player name can be revealed by changing some settings in the configuration menu. If you change your text language, Metaphor will default to the player and protagonist names, which is what Atlus is aiming for.
For the player name, it simply defaults to “you”, which makes sense. But for the protagonist's name, it is changed to “Will” in English, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.indicates that this is the overall default name for the hero. There are variations, such as the Spanish version's default name being “Victor”, but most point to it being Will.
By far my favorite of the bunch is the default Portuguese name, which is “Pedro”. Definitely a fitting name for a ruler.
All this suggests that the official official name of the hero of the metaphor: ReFantazio is Will, although the second name is currently unknown. It's unclear if Atlus is going to officially confirm this, but it has already revealed the names of its heroes in any manga or anime adaptation of its games.
That being said, it's worth noting that there have been several different interpretations of Atlus' hero names in the past. The protagonist of Persona 3 was known as Minato in the manga adaptation of the game, before being called Makoto in the anime adaptation and most of the official media. For now, though, it seems we can safely say that the protagonist of the metaphor is Will.
