Hachan, informally known as Hachi, is a somewhat naive octopus-man who was a long-time confidant of Arlong. He is a swordsman who is skilled in the six sword style. Despite his captain's anti-human ideology, Hatchan never really bought into this philosophy. She was also a friend of Silvers Reilly, the first wife of the legendary pirate Roger. Hatchan joined Arlong's crew after breaking away from the Sun Pirates, eventually settling in Arlong Park in East Blue. Despite not having the prejudice of his captain, he nevertheless followed his orders. He was responsible for the arrest of the name, which in part led to the subsequent disaster.

After being defeated by Zoro, Hachan quits piracy and opens a takoyaki shop. He befriends Kami, a kissing gourami mermaid, and Papag, his starfish companion, who both help him save Takuyaki 8. When Kami asks the Straw Hats for help to save Hachan, the fish man feels uncomfortable. He is saved by his former enemies and tries to hide his identity. This fails when Zoro recognizes his voice.

After joining a group of pirate crews and criminal organizations, it was at the age of 24 that he met Crocodile, who needed his help in obtaining an ancient weapon, Pluto. He was useful to the warlord and acted as his liaison with agents in Baroque Works, as well as a renowned assassin.

Robin showed signs of not going along with his plan, which eventually led to the pair attempting to kill each other. Luffy saved his life which he claimed he didn't want. His disbelief in dreams caused Luffy to see him under his gaze, but Bellamy and his crew didn't get the message. Despite constantly encouraging the young pirate to attack him, his own attacks had no effect against Luffy, who took him out with one hit.

After tormenting Doflamingo, Bellamy and his crew traveled to the Sky Islands, though many did not survive the journey. Bellamy retrieves a gold pillar and regains his good standing with Donquixote Doflamingo. After this point, he became obsessed with becoming an officer in the Donquixote pirates. However, it was revealed that Doflamingo lacked confidence in his own skills and wished him dead. He insisted that he had no bad blood with Luffy when he met the pirate in Dressrosa. Despite this, Bellamy continued to fight Luffy, but did not fare well against him.

After recovering, Bellamy refused to be Luffy's underling, being one of the few Dressrosa allies not to join the Straw Hat's Grand Fleet. Instead, Bellamy retired from piracy and became a dyer.
