- Fallout fans have revealed that they are making an entire game in New Vegas called New Mexico.
- It's still in the early stages of development, but the trailer gives us a glimpse of some of the key factions, the Cartel.
The Fallout modding scene never ceases to impress. We recently launched Fallout: London, a fully fan-made game set in England's capital, while other teams work tirelessly to remake the original isometric classics in a modern, Bethesda style.
But it doesn't end there, because another group of fans is making another indie game in New Vegas called “Nuevo México”.
“Mexico City is the largest city in North America and serves as the largest hub in Fallout: Nuevo México,” the team announced in the description of the new trailer. “Once the vibrant heart of a great metropolis, Mexico City now lies in ruins, a battleground for factions vying for dominance and survival. From the decaying colony of Chapultepec to the sunken canals of Xochimilco, this The city is a combination of beauty and cruelty.
The trailer opens with a lavish party in an old mansion, valiantly defended by sleek robot bodyguards, before a disturbing image of corpses hanging from chains in the basement while a chainsaw spins while someone screams, “No! Please Senor, no!” “
A narrator begins to speak as we fast-forward from the horror show to Mexico City itself, a detailed metropolis on the scale of Bethesda's largest cities.
“Here we are, in the middle of nowhere, thriving under my command,” says the narrator. “People think that because I'm in charge, it's all for me to walk in flowerbeds. They're wrong. Those from the north, with their shining armor and stories of greatness, think they can “Walk around here like that. Their hunting ground isn't worth your boots.”
The narrator reveals that in the aftermath of the apocalypse, he has taken over the Cartel for himself and is fighting what appears to be the Steel Brothers. The project is still “heavily in development,” so it'll be a while before we get our hands on it and know more, but it's an exciting glimpse into a strain of the Fallout world we haven't seen firsthand. .
What happened to Mexico in Fallout?
The history of Mexico in the Fallout universe is tragic. Even before the bombs were dropped, a massive earthquake destroyed most of Mexico City. Soon after, the United States imposed sanctions on Mexico in an attempt to destabilize the country so that it could get its oil amid escalating resource wars.
Talking to Raul Tejada in New Vegas, we learn that Mexico City is a “radioactive ruin” full of marauders divided into raiding tribes. To make matters worse, in Fallout 2, we destroy the Control Station Enclave where the new President of the United States is based. However, the control station is an oil platform, and so its destruction spread radioactive waste along the coasts of California and Mexico, irradiating ocean life.
So while Mexico City may not have suffered the devastating fate of Washington, D.C., it's hardly an ideal vacation spot.
