Rule 3 of Balder's Gate 3 There's a lot of killing going on, more than the previous two acts combined, and a lot of blame being thrown around. From the moment the player starts Game 3, tensions are always high with a city threatening to fall apart and a powerful robotic police force monitoring the populace. To make matters worse, a popular local religious leader has been murdered in what appears to be a murder-suicide by a refugee he was supporting and protecting—at least that's the theory in town.
Soon after entering Act 3 and the town of Rivington, players encounter a religious temple with a bit of a commotion going on outside, the Temple of the Open Hand. The Temple of the Open Hand generally accepts refugees, but currently does not due to the recent murder of their leader, Father Lurgan, who was apparently murdered by Brilgor, one of the aforementioned welcomed refugees. Talking to those in and around the temple will give players different opinions on what really happened, but no one is really sure of the truth. To begin the quest to uncover the truth, players must talk to Yannis' sister and offer to help solve the murder. The investigator charged with uncovering the truth, a Haliphant named Valeria, is firmly convinced that Brilgor is guilty.
Sister Yannis provides the player with interesting clues to explore in their research, and there is no particular order in which to complete them. This guide specifically covers one of the most direct routes, which begins by examining the corpse of Father Lurgan in a room on the southwest-most side of the temple.
Updated on September 23, 2024 by Nahda Nabileh: The Open Hand Temple murder case has to be one of the most complicated cases players will face in Baldur's Gate 3. A killer is on the run, killing all the citizens in the name of Baal and folding their hands. How to solve the open-handed temple murders in Balder's Gate 3
Unfortunately, there isn't much to immediately notice about the father's corpse unless the player thinks a little more outside the box. The best course of action here is for the player to use the “speak to the dead” ability to speak directly to Lurgan's father, where you can ask him about various things such as where, when and how he died and more importantly. , which killed him. Lurgan's father will reveal that Brilgor was not the one who killed him, but that he was killed by a “red dwarf”.
After speaking with Lurgan's father, players must retain a character that is able to speak to the dead in their party, as their task is not yet done. From the room where Lurgan's father's body is located, players must exit through the back door that leads outside and enter the kitchen directly in front of them. Players should instead go through the door to the west of the kitchen and follow the stairs down and out before going to the hatch that Sister Yannis pointed out.
From here, players must follow the path through the cemetery until they see the grave next to the small mausoleum. Interacting with the mound of dirt allows the player to take out Brilgor's coffin, and attacking it with a character will reveal Brilgor's dead body. Once again, players must use their tongue-in-cheek death companion to gather more details on Brilgor, the supposed “killer.”
Now that players have talked to the dead enough and gathered relevant details, it's time to head to the scene of the murder. Go back to the kitchen and enter the hatch that Sister Yanis mentioned, which leads to the open temple vault. Once in the warehouse, players must follow the corridor until they find themselves in a large room with two statues, an altar, and a very clear panel of the wall opening behind it.
Directly across from the altar is another room containing a pile of buried corpses, and while that room is not relevant to this quest, it is an important part of the Help the Cursed Monk quest that players may complete during Act 2 have started. When the player is ready to continue, they should examine the walls directly next to the two statues, where they will find an interactive plaque called “Heraldic Insignia”, and upon interacting with this sign, a button will appear on either side. to be By pressing the buttons, the wall panel will open, allowing the player to proceed towards the murder scene.
Once players get a little further into the murder scene room, they enter a battle that cannot be avoided or talked about. Players must make sure their team is rested, equipped, and properly assembled before the wall panel is open!
Once the player has defeated and looted the enemies, they should make sure to loot any nearby corpses as well – possibly victims of the people the player just defeated. Among these victims is the corpse of Dribbles the Clown, so looting this body is a very important part of the other Act 3 side quests that players have probably already picked up.
Another victim will hold the “Goal Key”, which will allow the player to proceed to the next part of the quest. Additionally, near the wooden platform is a hole in the ground that can be searched to find the “Stillmaker” murder weapon. Players must have enough understanding to discover this hole. Before leaving, players can once again use their ability to speak with the dead to interrogate those who attacked them, although this step is entirely optional.
The place to use the flower key in Balder's Gate 3
Now that the player has found the key to the goal, they have the most important part of solving the murder. The question is: what unlocks? The answer to this can be found at a nearby inn called Fraygo's Flophouse. However, reaching the flop house can be a potentially more complicated endeavor than players might anticipate. To get to the Flop House, players must first go through the South Span Outpost, just north of the Open Hand Temple. This checkpoint is guarded by five Fist units and one large Steel Watchers, and various other Fist units are close enough to join any fights that may occur here.
According to the nature Balder's Gate 3the experience of passing this checkpoint may vary based on the various choices players have made so far, some players can talk their way through, some need to fight or be imprisoned, and some Potentially they pass through another way. In case players need an alternative way to pass this checkpoint, abilities like “Fly” and ” foggy stepCan allow characters to go around or through checkpoints without initiating interrogation.
Once players have passed the South Span Outpost and entered Wyrm's Crossing, it's time to head to Fraygo's Flophouse. The Flophouse is located directly through the checkpoint. This door will be immediately to the player's left. The player can accuse the employee of being a murderer for stupid dialogue, but what players are looking for here is the upper floor. Players must go upstairs and take the first opening to their right to find themselves facing a ladder that leads to the Flop House's attic.
In a very messy attic, players find a unique, pristine wardrobe that looks out of place, which is actually a secret entrance that can be opened with the flower key the players looted earlier. Upon entering this room, the table to the player's right contains what the players are looking for: a journal that suggests the assassination is part of a ballistic conspiracy, as well as a list of other targets for the assassination.
Where to find Valeria the Scholar in Balder's Gate 3
Now that the players have enough evidence that Brilgor is innocent and that Lurgan's father was murdered as part of a serial murder plot called the God Above, it's time for the players to report their findings to their Haliphant friend, Valeria. . Valeria can be found right across the street from the Flop House, on the second floor of Shars Nasheh.
If, for some reason, Valeria isn't there, it most likely means that the player has advanced the main story a bit, and they can find her somewhere else later. Speaking with Valeria completes the Open Hand Temple Murders quest, and she sends players on their way to begin a new line of missions centered around planned murders and the Baalist Cult.
