Meito, also known as Legendary Swords, Famed Blades, and similar nicknames, are, as any name suggests, made blades of special fame. Those who are well versed in blades can spot them instantly and tend to command both high prices and top owners. Meito are individually “graded” based on their strength and quality.

One Piece: 5 non-canon characters that don't make sense
Although technically not all non-core characters in One Piece “make sense”, these characters in particular seem to be at odds with the main premise.
Grade Grade Blades are Second Grade Blades, just below the 12 Great Blades. Only 21 of this Meito are available. The five currently known to the audience originate from the country of Wano, known for its superior artisans, and are currently owned by those associated with the region. This list documents every currently known Graded blade.
6 Wado Ichimonji
One of Zoro's blades
- Current Owner: Roronoa Zoro
- Creator: Shimotsuki Kozaburo
Wado Ichimonji is a katana that Zoro has owned since his quest to become the strongest swordsman in the world. Previously used by his friend and training partner, Shimotsuki Kuina. Wado Ichimonji was built by his grandfather Kozaburo, who brought it with him from Vanuatu. Settling in East Blue, he helped found the village of Shimotsuki. Kozaburo's legacy was later used by his son Koshiro and grandson Koina.
Koina and Zoro were Koshiro's best students, developing a close friendship and rivalry as a result. In a serious fight, Koina used Wado Ichimonji and defeated Zoro with it. However, she did not celebrate much, as her sexist Kushiro beliefs that women could not be skilled with swords concerned her, especially as she approached puberty. Zoro assured him that skill and determination were the only things that really mattered, and the two friends swore to each other that one of them would become the strongest swordsman in the world.
After her sudden death at the age of eleven, Zoro requested the sword so that he could fulfill his promise to Quina. Koshiro allowed this and has remained with the swordsman ever since. In a way, it's still technically a Shimotsuki heritage, as Zoro's paternal grandmother, Furiko, was also a Shimotsuki. Ichimonji's wado is notable enough that Tashigi was offended that a pirate merely claimed ownership of it.
5 Amina Habkari
One of Oden's blades
- Current owner: Kozuki Mumonosuke (tentatively)
- Producer: Kozuki Sukiyaki
Ame no Habakiri was one of Kozuki Oden's signature swords, which used a two-sword style. The blade has a sky white and gold color scheme. It shares the name with the legendary Japanese katana used by the Shinto god Susanoo to slay the eight-headed serpent, Yamata no Orochi. This distinction is likely due to the fact that it was previously one of several weapons that damaged Kaido in his dragon form.
This sword was specifically made by Kozuki Sukiyaki, Oden's father, who is a master craftsman. After his son's death, Sukiyaki somehow managed to recover Ame no Habakiri. Although Sukiyaki wants Momonosuke to take over his legacy, he still does not feel worthy of wielding his father's sword.
4 but
An evil Mito
- Current Owner: Roronoa Zoro
- Creator: Shimotsuki Kozaburo
Enma was Oden's other signature sword, which was somewhat similar to the more celestial Demon Ami no Habakiri, with a dark purple and red color scheme. Like Wado Ichimonji, it was previously built by Kozaburo and is now owned by his distant relative, Zoro. Kozaburo specifically thought that Enma was even superior to Wado Ichimonji.
While Ami no Habakiri's heir was apparently Momonosuke's birthright, Enma belonged to his younger sister Hiyori. However, Hiyori gave the blade to Zoro in exchange for Shusui.

One Piece: Every Zoan Devil Fruit with multiple models
Look for Zoan Devil Fruits, especially those with different “models” and shapes.
Like Ame no Habakiri, Enma was one of the two blades that wounded Kaido years ago, resulting in the distinctive “x” shaped scar on his chest. The blade can unleash its owner's haki aurament and gain a terrifying reputation as a result. Zoro's arm had grown thin by the time he took control of it with the blade, seemingly slimming the entire body of a lesser swordsman. Zoro not only wounded Kaido once again with the enema, but also used it to defeat King, which is especially remarkable considering he's a flexible Lunar species.
Sukiyaki claims that if Zoro can turn Enma into a permanent black blade, it may increase a rank and potentially become a high grade sword. An odd detail about Enma is that it seems to resize to accommodate a more normal-sized Zoro and a larger Oden. This inconsistency is also shared with Ame no Habakiri, but it is more noticeable in the case of Enma, as it is clearly used by two swordsmen of different sizes and fits for each of them.
3 Kitsu's cry
cursed sword
- Current owner: Kozuki Sukiyaki
- Creator: Kotsu
The Nidai Kitetsu is a cursed katana from the Kitetsu school, all of which are said to bring gruesome deaths to their wielders. It was built by Kotetsu, the ancestor of the Kozuki clan. His descendant, Kozuki Sukiyaki, is the current owner of the blade. The Sandai Kitetsu, another of Meito's Kitetsu, is currently owned by Zoro, who discovered it in Lougetown and chose to test his luck against the blade. It's worth noting that the Sandai Kitetsu is the only sword Zoro currently wields that is below Excellent Grade and is merely a Grade Blade (the lowest Meito Grade of which there are an unknown number).
Kitetsu Meito seems to have downgraded everything that has been made lately. Nidai Kitetsu is a lower grade than Shodai Kitetsu, a blade made before the creation of Kotetsu, but a higher grade than Sandai Kitetsu, which was made by Sukiyaki who is still alive. Sukiyaki lent the blade to Luffy, whose handling of the weapon was severely criticized by Zoro. Notably, Luffy threw the sword instead of directly dueling people. It was then re-owned by Sukiyaki, as it was rediscovered in Udon by Kikunojo.
2 Shusui
A black blade
- Current Owner: Obscure, resting in Shimotsuki Ryoma's grave
- Maker: Unknown
Shusui was the signature sword of Shimotsuki Ryoma, a legendary samurai known as the “Sword God” who was the ancestor of Roronoa Zoro, who bore a resemblance to his lineage. Ryoma significantly transformed the sword into a Black Blade, a blade permanently imbued with Ryoma's Haki Armament, which significantly increased its durability. Ryoma was buried with his sword, but it was confiscated next to his body when Geko Moriya stole the grave.
He subsequently appeared alongside his owner's reanimated corpse in Thriller Bark. Zoro dueled against his zombified ancestor, who eventually gifted the blade to Zoro himself. Zoro believed that if the duel continued, his other blades would break against it. Zoro became particularly skilled with the blade when he was trained by Dracul Mihawk, the owner of Euro, another Black Blade.

Shusui has a particularly strong connection with Wano country. Zoro repeatedly had the gun stolen from him, or else asked to give it back by those in the country. Onimaru stole the blade from Zoro and returned it to Ryoma's grave. Its value is so high that Hiyori Enma trades her own blade, which used to be her father's, with Zoro to secure Shusui's place in the country.
1 Another sixteen excellent grade blades
Currently unclear
The status of these Meito, as well as whether they play a role in the story at all, remains to be seen. Unlike the five currently known Grade Grade Blades, it is at least possible that another Meito of this grade originated outside of Wano. That being said, this, along with all other details, is pure speculation at this point in time. Of note is that there are a number of identified Meito of uncertain grade, meaning that it is possible that other existing blade grades have also been seen but are not currently identified as such.
