PlayStation Plus used to be a subscription service that got you a few free games every month and access to the online features of other titles. Needing to offer something similar to Xbox Game Pass in 2022, PlayStation shook things up by introducing a tiered PS Plus system. There are now three options to choose from: Essential, Extra and Premium. Each tier costs more than the previous one, but paying more gives you access to more features and a bigger library of games.

If you're signed up to Essential, the lowest tier of PS Plus, you'll get at least three free games per month to claim, even if you don't have access to the libraries that higher tiers open up to you. Claim and finally download them. While it's hard to appeal to everyone who subscribes to just three games, PlayStation tends to include a wide variety of titles in its freebies, and it did so again this December.
Topping the list of essential December offerings is It Takes Two. Winner of the Game of the Year award, which takes home the Game of the Year 2021 award, from December 3rd to January 6th, you can claim and keep the awesome multiplayer game for free. Since It Takes Two has sold more than 20 million copies in its first three years of release, chances are you already own it, but don't worry, two more games are coming on December 3rd that will hopefully make the Essential worth your while. to have
The only downside to It Takes Two is that it can only be played in multiplayer. The big advantage is that you can play it with anyone, even if they are on the other side of the world, and even if they don't own the game. Only one of you needs to have it for both of you to play.
A very different game coming from Essential is Aliens: Dark Descent. One of the many games set on an alien world, you are tasked with leading a team against an army of Xenomorphs. Easier said than done, playing a very different game again and complementing December's Essential titles, Temtem. Explore the islands and befriend mysterious creatures and fight others you encounter on your journey. It's very similar to other very popular game series, isn't it? Well, it's not, so don't even think about it.
