China launches rocket carrying new satellites

TAIPEI: China says it launched a rocket carrying an array of 18 satellites on Tuesday as part of efforts to prove its presence in space. The satellites were launched early Tuesday afternoon from the Taiwan Satellite Launch Center in northern China's Shaanxi Province on a Long Mars-6 launch vehicle. The official Xinhua news agency said the missile reached its pre-planned orbit without incident.
