Sniper Elite 5: All Missions, Ranked
Sniper Elite 5 features missions on massive maps, set in key moments of World War II. We have ranked them based on the best of them.
All of these entries have something to enjoy, and there's a slow progression of mechanics from the first game to the latest. But that doesn't mean the original games aren't still relevant, especially if you find yourself enjoying similar games.
7 Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army (series)
The Nazi Zombie Army mini-series branched off from the original Sniper Elite series, forcing players to re-kill dead Nazis, as opposed to regular undead Nazis. There are several iterations of the Nazi Zombie Army spinoff, all featuring an alternate history from WW2.
The Zombie Army Trilogy and Zombie Army 4 versions, in particular, are the ones that shine the most and are the most popular. The formula had been refined by then. Collaboration was strong, the world was defined, and anything could go down. Killing zombies is rarely this fun, and killing Nazi zombies with friends is a great bonding exercise.
6 Sniper Elite: VR/VR Winter Warrior
Sniper Elite VR and its sequel, Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior are what most VR ports are. Great VR experiences for VR fans or for super fans of the franchise, but a bit lacking in breadth and depth compared to regular entries in the series. It makes sense that it is, given that VR is a small market compared to the traditional 2D market, and sometimes both control and transparency must be respected.
All that said, if you're looking for a unique VR shooter experience, you won't find many other games out there, and these are definitely worth your time. While they can be a little bulky, most things in VR just take a little getting used to. Once you get over that hump and understand exactly how to interact with the world, these games can be a great time.
5 Sniper Elite v2/v2 Remastered
Sniper Elite 2 has been remastered to incorporate the mechanics of recent Sniper Elite games, but the original was pretty good too. V2 was the first Sniper Elite to feature an X-ray kickcam mechanic, so you could get up close and personal with what your shots were doing to the Nazis.
The original version of Sniper Elite v2 is not available in many places since the version 2 Remastered was released.
The story of Sniper Elite v2 takes place in the final part of World War II, where Russian forces threaten to gain control of German missile technology. It pits you against German and Russian forces alike, with a comprehensive upgrade on the previous game's gameplay.
4 Sniper Elite 3
Sniper Elite 3 kicked things up a notch with expansive levels set in North Africa. The game is a prequel very close to the start of the war, and the new stealth mechanics direct enemies to where you last saw them. If you're quick, smart, and a little lucky, you can use this to your advantage, allowing you to lead enemies on a wild goose chase and head straight for your sights.
The large environments give you the ability to really do things your way, and the new stealth mechanic helps turn it into a sandbox that lets you really explore levels once you get the hang of things. make your own
3 Elite Sniper
Where it all started, the first Sniper Elite may be a little rough around the edges, but it owes much of its bones to the creator of everything that followed. Given its age, you have to look at it and realize that it's going to be lacking in a lot of things that we take for granted in newer games.
But if you give it a chance, you might be surprised by some details that weren't standard at the time. The kickcam came out in the first episode, without the X-ray component, but it was still a very interesting addition, and it was the gimmick that got so many players hooked in the first place.
2 Sniper Elite 4
If Sniper Elite 3 expanded on the Sniper Elite formula, Sniper Elite 4 enhanced it. With the expansion of the X-ray kill camera for sniper kills, it now includes more or less any type of kill. Nazis who are killed by the explosion will be torn apart by shrapnel, and those who escape the explosion may be killed by a melee.
It's not all about X-rays either, as new navigation options add more stealth and some real density to the return of the large, open maps that first appeared in the previous iteration. All in all, Sniper Elite 4 did what 3 did and improved it all across the board, creating a truly expansive sandbox.
1 Sniper Elite 5
If Sniper Elite 4 improved on Sniper Elite 3, the fifth iteration almost perfected it. The maps are still gigantic, but there's so much going on that each part of the map feels like a level in itself. The sniping mechanics here feel as good as ever, and the bullet-time X-ray cameras are at their best.
Weapon customization has also been upgraded, allowing you to change almost everything about your large number of weapons, including different types of ammo. The campaign is as long and satisfying as ever, and because of the size and depth of the levels, it's a game that can be played more than once and in many different ways.
