in the world of bleachBanky is the Soul Reaper's ultimate trump card, which they will only use when absolutely necessary. Bleach: The 8 Biggest Changes Between Manga and Anime
For the most part, the Bleach anime sticks to its manga inspirations, but there are some notable differences between the two images.
Because of this, some captains only use their bankai once or twice during the series to avoid revealing them in the middle of a fight. When looking at the most prominent weaknesses, although it can severely limit the user's ability in battle, this Bankai takes the cake for having the biggest holes in its reliability.
8 Senbonzakura Kagyoshi (Byakuya Kuchiki)
Byakuya's safe zone can be revealed by his enemy while in Bankai
- First appearance: Episode 58
Arguably the most popular banki in the series, Zenbonsakura Kagyoshi sees Byakuya surround his opponent in a mass of razor-sharp petals before smashing them to the ground with an infinite number of blades. Considering how many times Byakuya has used this technique, the danger level isn't as high as some others, but it still has one huge flaw that Tsukishima reveals during the Fullbring arc: the safe zone.
It seems that Byakuya's enemy can be attacked from any direction at any moment, but Byakuya, meanwhile, is protected because he can stand in a small safe circle in the center of the Bankai. If a fighter can get close to Byakuya so they stay in the circle as well, it can become a real problem for the captain as it basically renders the ability useless.
7 Cotton Kyokutsu Karamatsu Shinjo (Kyoraku Shusui)
The area of effect with this bank can make it dangerous to use with nearby allies
- First appearance: TYBW episode 35
Kyoraku Bankai consists of four different actions, each of which involves analyzing the opponent's strength and will while tearing them to pieces. Kyoraku has only released his bank once throughout the series because, as Okitake says, while performing miracles on a target, he also puts Kyoraku's allies at risk.

Bleach: The most underrated captains, ranked
These Bleach captains are often overshadowed by their comrades, despite their best efforts to protect Soul Society.
Kyoraku's Bankai has an area of effect, meaning if an ally jumps into the same battle while using it, things can get ugly very quickly and easily lead to someone's death. After Kyoraku used Bankai against Lil Barrow, he was shown to be severely injured due to the excessive pressure on his body, another drawback of this flashy technique.
6 Ryumon Hozukimaru (Ikako Madarame)
A bank with a slow startup limits its overall usability
- First appearance: episode 118
The moment when Ikaku unleashes his Bankai against the Arrancar is often cited by fans as one of the most epic and exciting Bankai activation scenes in the entire show. Despite not even being a captain, Ikaku managed to achieve a truly impressive Bankai where his Zanpakutō transforms into two massive slashes large enough to tear apart even the most durable opponents.
As he admits up front, Ryumon Hozukimaru is a “slow starter” as his Zanpakuto spirit only begins to awaken as the fight continues. As explained later in the series in Fake Karakura Town, Ikaku's Bankai also gets weaker every time it is destroyed. So while it's still very powerful and certainly a scary sight, the amount of time it takes for this Bankai to fully activate is something that most Soul Reapers can't handle when fighting hard.
5 Zanka no Tachi (Genriosai Yamamoto)
Yamamoto's Destroyer Bankai can only be used for a limited time
- First appearance: TYBW episode 6
Zanka no Tachi, the bankai of none other than Chief Yamamoto, is one of the most destructive and powerful individuals in the entire Soul Society. When Yamamoto unleashes the power of his Zanpakuto, he goes through four different phases of attack, all of which involve burning his enemies to death, but with such power comes a heavy price.
As Yamamoto makes clear during his battle with Yhwach, using Zanka no Tachi for too long will destroy not only his enemy, but himself and even the entire Soul Society. Even when Yamamoto revealed his Bankai for the first time, the air within Soul Society became heavy almost immediately, apparently getting worse the longer the sword was active.
4 Suzumoshi Suishiki Enma Kurogi (Kaname Tosen)
If the opponent gets too close to his sword, Tousen's bankai is canceled immediately
- First appearance: episode 51
Since Toussaint was only a captain on the show for a short time, fans only got to see him use his bankai once, against a fellow captain. In this fight with Kenpachi, it is fully explained how Tousen's bankai works, which can completely shut down an opponent's senses, allowing Tousen to hit them from different angles without them feel, see or hear something.

8 bleach conversions that were rarely used
These iconic changes were barely used in the Bleach series.
Fortunately, Zaraki found one of Banki's main weaknesses when he got hold of Toussen's blade and completely disabled his power, leaving him completely exposed. Since Kenpachi is a fighter who likes to get up close and personal with his foes, he was able to figure this out pretty quickly, so Tousen's Bankai is probably better suited for ranged opponents, which limits its versatility.
3 Kokujo Tangen Mio (Kumamura Sajin)
Komora will receive all the damage done to his bank
- First appearance: episode 51
It specifically focuses on Komura's Bankai before getting the upgraded version in the story. Kokujo Tengen Myo is basically a giant version of Komamura in every sense, meaning it follows his every physical move and attack exactly as he does. However, this means that since the two are inherently linked, any damage Kokujo Ten Miu receives will also be dealt to Komura.
It also doesn't help that this bank, while fast for its size, is still on the slower side compared to many others and if the opponent has abilities that make them too nimble to see the eyes Slow, it can be easily exploited. Again, Komora strengthens this bank in the Millennium Blood War arc, but it always has flaws that make it a bit dangerous to use.
2 Nowzarshi (Zaraki Kenpachi)
Zaraki's Bankai tears through his body to gain an immense surge of power
- The first appearance: Chapter 669
Kenpachi's extremely powerful Bankai is very much a last resort that will certainly hurt the user as much as it does the opponent. Zarki takes on a red-like appearance when unleashing Nuzarshi, with glowing red skin and black freckles covering his skin. He also receives a stunning power boost, and is much more ruthless than before, though Kenpachi also loses all sense of reason in this form.
This means that he essentially becomes a one-man killing machine, attacking friend and foe alike if his mindless gaze locks onto them. Additionally, the Bankai is so powerful that it tears apart Kenpachi's body while using it and paralyzes him after using it. There is always the possibility that Kenpachi could kill himself or others when using Bankai, which is why limiting its use as much as possible is highly recommended by other captains.
1 Hakka No Togame (Rukia Kuchiki)
One wrong move with this ice bankai could result in the loss of a limb or even Rukia's life
- First appearance: TYBW episode 19
Rukia's Bankai, which she first used against Sterneater as Nod during the Thousand Year Blood War arc, sees her freeze everything in her vicinity, including herself. While Rukia's opponents caught in the attack are instantly destroyed, Rukia survives, though moving her body quickly takes a lot of damage and can even kill her if she's too hasty.
It's also said that Rukia doesn't have a lot of experience using her banki, and while it's not a weakness in itself, it can still be dangerous when paired with a banki that requires a lot of precision to use correctly and without taking damage. be . Fortunately, Byakuya is there during the As Nodt battle to remind Rukia that slowly opening the Bankai is crucial to its safe use.
