Israel’s Netanyahu says hostage deal could be near for hostages in Gaza

According to the International Group of Young Journalists Club, quoted by Reuters, Beijing: According to Chinese state media, various Palestinian groups agreed to end their differences and strengthen Palestinian unity by signing the Beijing Declaration on Tuesday morning in China.

State broadcaster CCTV said the statement was signed at the closing ceremony of the reconciliation talks between the factions held in Beijing from July 21 to 23.

In a social media post, CGTN announced that a total of 14 Palestinian factions, including the leaders of rival factions Fatah and Hamas, also met with the media in the presence of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Rival factions Hamas and Fatah met in China in April to discuss reconciliation efforts to end their 17-year-old feud.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed the agreement by 14 Palestinian factions to form an “Interim Government of National Reconciliation” to administer Gaza after the war.

Palestinian groups including Hamas and Fatah met in Beijing this week in a renewed attempt at reconciliation.

As the meeting ended on Tuesday, China's top diplomat said the groups were committed to “reconciliation”.

“The most obvious point is the agreement to form an interim national reconciliation government around the post-war Gaza government,” Wang said after the factions signed the “Beijing Declaration” in the Chinese capital.

“Reconciliation is a domestic issue for Palestinian factions, but at the same time, it cannot be achieved without the support of the international community,” Wang said.

He added that China is willing to “play a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East.”

Hamas and Fatah have been bitter rivals since Hamas fighters drove Fatah out of the Gaza Strip following deadly clashes that followed Hamas' landslide 2006 election victory.

The Islamist movement Hamas has ruled Gaza since its capture in 2007.

The secular Fatah movement controls the Palestinian Authority, which has partial administrative control in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
