One person was killed and two were injured in an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon following increased concerns about the escalation of tensions

Beirut: One person was killed and two others were injured in a military attack by the Zionist regime on the border village of Rab Al-Thirahin in Lebanon on Thursday amid growing concerns about the escalation of the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.

Hezbollah said it fired anti-aircraft missiles after Israeli fighters entered southern Lebanese airspace, forcing them to retreat.

In his report on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 between February 21 and June 20 this year, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of the “expansion of a devastating war on both sides of the blue line”.

Resolution 1701, which was passed in 2006 to end the war between Israel and Hezbollah that year, calls for an end to hostilities, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon, and the disarmament of non-state armed groups, including Hezbollah.

In his latest report, Guterres highlighted the continued fighting in southern Lebanon and said he was “deeply concerned about the repeated violations of the ceasefire across the Blue Line from October 8, 2023”.

He warned that the cycle of escalation of tension between Hezbollah and other non-governmental armed groups in Lebanon and the Israeli Defense Forces will severely affect the civilian population on both sides of the Blue Line and is a serious threat to the stability of Lebanon, Israel and Israel. region, and that “the intensification and geographic expansion of the exchange of fire, coupled with increasingly hostile rhetoric and threats of an all-out war, is deeply troubling.”

The UN Secretary-General called on both sides to “immediately recommit to the full implementation of Resolution 1701, immediately return to a cessation of hostilities and use all diplomatic channels, including the good offices of the United Nations, to avoid further suffering and the risk of further escalation.” do A devastating fire.”

Pointing out that “the exchange of firemen from the possession of weapons outside the authority of the government… by Hezbollah and other non-governmental armed groups, contrary to Resolution 1701”, he asked the Lebanese government to take all necessary measures to ensure that there be no weapons or power in Lebanon except those of the Lebanese government, including through the full implementation of existing agreements and UN resolutions that “require the disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon.”

Guterres once again condemned “all violations of Lebanon's sovereignty by Israel” and asked the Israeli authorities to “stop all flights over Lebanese territory.”

He also asked Lebanon's political leaders to “take decisive steps to elect a president to address the political, economic and security needs that the country is facing.”

The presidential office has been vacant since October 2022, when Michel Aoun's term ends, as political factions in the country have been unable to agree on a successor.

Guterres also said the ability of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon “is more critical than ever to carry out its operational activities as mandated”, but warned that restrictions on the force's freedom of movement remained a “major concern”. He asked the Lebanese government to deal with any such incidents.

Meanwhile, the Zionist regime's artillery fired on the outskirts of Kafarchoba village on Thursday morning while members of the civil defense were trying to put out the fire caused by the previous attack on this area at dawn. No one was injured, but civil defense teams had to stop their efforts to extinguish the fire. An Israeli war drone launched a guided missile that targeted the same area.

The suburbs of Aitarun were also attacked by artillery, which caused fires, as well as the surrounding areas of the city of Naqourah. And the Israeli forces targeted the areas around the city of Mis al-Jabal with incendiary phosphorus bombs. Although such weapons are not prohibited under international humanitarian law, conventions severely restrict their use in heavily populated civilian areas.

Also on Thursday, Hezbollah announced that it had attacked and targeted a building used by Israeli soldiers in Manara settlement in response to Wednesday's attack on Kafrham. The group said it also targeted military buildings in Shetula, a target in Hanita, and “spying equipment at the Birkat Risha site… leading to its destruction.”

Avichai Adraei, the spokesman of the Zionist regime army, said that the forces of this regime carried out attacks against “Hezbollah targets and targeting military buildings”.
